Solent sailing long weekend 18-21 April 2025

Solent sailing weekend 2025

Solent sailing weekend

We have booked a lovely 43′ Elan sailing yacht (4 cabins, 2 heads) for the long Easter weekend and are very much looking forward to seeing you on board! We will start and finish our Solent sailing weekend in Haslar Marina, Gosport (meet 0900 Friday 18th April, finish 1600 Monday 21st April).

Solent sailing weekend 2025The itinerary for the sailing weekend is flexible, but we’re thinking about a trip to Poole and Studland Bay, returning via the western Solent (Yarmouth/ Lymington). Alternatively, if the weather and tides dictate a different plan then a trip to include the lovely Chichester Harbour and perhaps Bembridge might be in order.

To give the trip a unique flavour we will endeavour to fly the spinnaker, and coaching on this will be offered. In addition, if circumstances allow and if there is any interest, we will get the sextants out to practice a bit of celestial navigation.

Price: £550/ head, or £500/ head if booked and paid for before 31 January 2025.

As ever, this presumes sharing a cabin (or saloon) – if you want a whole cabin for yourself, the price above will be £1000 (or £900 if booked before 31 January).

The price will include all boat costs (moorings, diesel, charter fees); breakfast and lunch on board; foul weather suits (but not footwear). Evening meals will be taken ashore and are not covered.

Please don’t delay! There are only 7 spaces available! Don’t forget to tell your friends and sailing buddies – and invite them along!

The cruising area

Of course, many of you will know the Solent well. But for those who do not, we might visit Cowes (home of UK yachting), Yarmouth (a picturesque town at the western end of the IOW) or Lymington (in the heart of the New Forest).
Solent sailing weekend 2025Further west, there is the famous Needles channel leading to the wide expanse of Christchurch Bay. From there we can enter Poole harbour or anchor in Studland Bay.

East from the Solent takes us past Hayling Island and into the many delights of Chichester harbour. Itchenor is a beautiful village to visit, or Bosham if the tide is right.

Elan 434

The boat is a 4 cabin version of this popular design, chartered to us by our friends at Four Seasons Yacht Charter. It has 3 large double cabins, one bunk cabin, and three further berths in the saloon. The yacht also has 2 heads and heating (if required!)

It is a comfortable and stable yacht that is well known around the Solent. You will be encouraged to take a full part in sailing and managing the yacht, including berthing. You do not need to be an expert to come along, however – full coaching will be offered if you wish to have it.

Do you know someone who might want to get into yacht sailing? This weekend would make a great ‘taster’ experience prior to doing RYA Competent Crew.
